FAQ on condoms
Any more questions?
We are “HERE FOR YOU” and of course we want to answer any questions you may have.
You will find some questions that we’ve already answered here.
When choosing a condom, the size of the penis is particularly important. A condom must fit properly to ensure safety and comfort. To determine the correct size, measure once around the thickest part of your erect penis using a flexible tape measure. Dividing this value by 2, will give you guidance on which size suits you best. BILLY BOY condoms come in widths of 52 mm, 53 mm, 56 mm or 55 mm, with 62 mm at the top. You can find the size information on packs of condoms. Once you’ve determined your size, you can also use our condom finder to find the perfect condom for you.
All BILLY BOY condoms leave our warehouse with a shelf-life of at least four years. The exact expiry date can always be found on the pack and the condom wrapper. Do not use any out-of-date or damaged condoms!
Yes and no. You can tell whether a lubricant can be used together with a condom by reading the ingredients. Water-based lubricants are great for using with condoms. The lubricant packaging indicates whether the product is approved for use with condoms. We do not recommend the use of lubricants based on products that contain organic fat and/or oil, such as petroleum jelly, baby oils, body lotions, massage oils, edible fats, etc. They damage the condom and can make it split quickly. You can find BILLY BOY water-based lubricants that can be used with condoms without any problems here.
Lubricant is primarily used to provide the necessary moisture. This can prevent unpleasant friction, pain or even minor skin injuries. It can also enhance pleasure during sex and be used for massage. By reducing friction, lubricant also reduces the risk of the condom splitting and makes sex with condoms even safer. However, always make sure that the lubricant is approved for use with condoms.
The reliability of contraception using condoms depends very much on the quality and correct use. If used correctly, quality condoms will give you very reliable protection from unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Our BILLY BOY condoms are produced according to strict regulations and are constantly tested for their quality. If condoms fail, so split or slip off, this is often due to incorrect use. You can practise using them beforehand to avoid any mistakes. You must also check the expiry date and make sure they are stored properly (see next question). In addition, condoms can only provide reliable protection if used with fat-free and water-based lubricants.
The best place to store condoms is in a cool and dry place, protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight. It sounds strange, but the fridge is in fact the ideal storage place – but a bedside drawer at room temperature is quite sufficient. Storing them in your wallet, on the other hand, is not ideal, as a lot of friction and heat affect the quality of the condoms.
Since condoms are made of natural rubber latex, you can easily dispose of them in household waste or residual waste. It’s best to tie a knot in the condom beforehand. Condoms should not be disposed of in the toilet, as both the toilet and sewage treatment plant may get clogged up.
Yes, it’s perfectly normal that the expiry dates differ within a pack. We distribute batch numbers to be able to identify each individual condom in the event of any problems. All condoms from a production run are therefore given the same batch number. Packs are given an ID number so we can assign them too. Since the condoms are not added to the pack immediately due to production reasons, it is possible that a pack may contain individual condoms with different batch numbers and expiry dates. The earliest expiry date is always written on the pack. Therefore, there won’t be any condoms in the pack that expire earlier than the expiry date indicated on the pack.
We advise against this! If used correctly, a single condom provides adequate protection. Another condom on top does the opposite! This significantly increases the risk of the condom slipping off and of it splitting due to the friction between them.
In principle, yes. However, this is rare if high-quality condoms are used correctly. Condoms are medical devices and certified according to European standards. Condoms have to pass a lot of tests to be approved. For example, the so-called burst test, in which the condom must withstand at least 18 litres of air volume before it can burst. Our own requirements for this are even higher!
Condoms can and should also be used during oral sex to protect against sexually transmitted infections. However, you should be careful because sharp teeth, piercings, or braces can damage the condom. Always use a new condom when changing activity!
Yes, condoms can also be used in the shower and bath. However, it should be noted that the protective effect is impaired and reduced by spending a long time in the water and by anything added to the bath. When using the condom in the shower or bath, you should make sure you put the condom on when you’re dry and that it does not slip during sex. Other methods of contraception should be used in the sea or a pool because the salt and chlorine in the water damage the condom.
Condoms do not interfere with the body and do not usually cause side effects. However, if you suspect that you are allergic to condoms (latex), please see a doctor. An allergy test may be helpful and provide certainty. In the case of a latex allergy, you can also find latex-free condoms in our BILLY BOY SKYN range.
Yes, it’s called a Femidom. It prevents sperm from entering the uterus, protects against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and is almost as safe as the classic male condom if used correctly. Yet it has never really taken off.
Condoms are made of natural rubber latex, which has a specific odour and can vary from production to production. If you’d prefer less of this odour and more aroma, the BILLY BOY range offers many different variants. From fruity aromas to a fresh fragrance, as well as condoms that are subjected to a special prewash, there’s something for everyone. This includes, for example, the DU&ICH (YOU&I) range.
When we use the word “aroma” we mean the fragrance and not the taste of the condoms. For example, the BILLY BOY condoms with aroma smell like delicious strawberries or tutti-frutti. But we also have fresh aromas in our range. Give them a try!
Definitely! Using them in combination with the pill or a diaphragm is certainly not a problem. You should just make sure that the contraceptive used is labelled as “suitable for use with condoms”. You will find the information on the packaging and the product package inserts. However please note, that only a condom also protects against sexually transmitted infections, if used correctly. In addition, hormonal contraceptive methods, such as the pill, can also have side effects, as these do interfere with the body. A condom has clear advantages in this case!
No, we do not have condoms with a spermicidal coating. This was a deliberate decision, as most spermicidal products contain the controversial active substance nonoxynol-9, which can cause various undesirable side effects.
First off: putting on a condom is never weird, it’s normal. But of course, practice makes perfect. As if you practice enough, putting one on is very easy and there’s no long pause that might be awkward for you. The more experienced you are, the more confident you’ll be in using one. Gradually it becomes a moment that goes without saying and can also be integrated into foreplay.
BILLY BOY condoms are available in small and large packs. The price per condom therefore varies between approx. 0.50-1.20 euros. A normal pack costs between five and thirteen euros. With an average consumption of 12 condoms per month, the costs are in a similar range to the contraceptive pill. Contraception using condoms is a hormone-free alternative to the pill and also protects against sexually transmitted infections.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as “condom testers” in the true sense here. However, we’re always happy to receive your feedback in order to adapt and improve our product range. When we start a test campaign, you will find all the information on our website or on the BILLY BOY social media channels.
Yes, it is possible to take condoms on a plane in both your hand luggage and hold baggage without any problems. There are often concerns about the low temperatures in the baggage compartment. But it doesn’t get extremely cold there and the cool temperatures are in fact good for the shelf life of condoms.
